DONATIONS: LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN
The National Charter School movement has touched down in our wonderful state of Mississippi. This movement means choices for families who don’t usually have choices. This movement means innovative techniques for teachers and school accountability. But most importantly, this movement means giving the state of Mississippi an opportunity to catch up with other states around the country that have been developing charter schools for almost 25 years.
Phoenix Early College Charter School is looking to be one of Mississippi’s first charter schools and its first Early College model. Proposed in Natchez, Mississippi for the 2015 school year, the mission of the Phoenix Early College Charter School is to provide an integrated secondary and post-secondary academic program so all students earn one to two years of transferable college credit up to an associate degree, technical certificates, and workforce ready skills while fulfilling the requirement for a high school diploma. PECCS will help educate the leaders of tomorrow by giving them a strong academic foundation, leadership training, and high character standards. The early college model has been successful all across the country and especially in urban and minority communities.
Unfortunately, the new Mississippi law has not incorporated start-up funding and this is the purpose of this letter. PECCS will have to raise $150,000 a year for the first 3 years until state funding and good budgeting can surface for financial stability. We are asking that you consider supporting the students of Natchez-Adams County by making a commitment to a generous donation toward our goal. Please know that no donation is too small or too large for this grassroots movement. All funds will be used in Adams County for Phoenix Early College Charter School. A tremendous part of the approval process is to show the ability to find philanthropy and support and a commitment from you indicates you want to see improvement for our students. We have included an executive summary for your reading pleasure to give you a broader picture of the goals of PECCS and we look forward to a commitment of support.
Please feel free to contact us on Facebook at Phoenix Early College Charter School or by phone at 601-807-3632. Thank you in advance for partnering with us for a brighter future for Adams County.
Sincerely,
Volley Davis, Deputy Director
